Cookie Notice
Last updated: 2026-05-26
Note: This notice has been drafted for plain-language clarity. We recommend a final review by qualified counsel before reliance.
This notice explains what cookies and similar technologies The Margin Labs uses on themarginlabs.com, why we use them, and how you can control them. We have kept cookies to an absolute minimum.
What cookies are
Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your device when you visit. They are widely used to make sites work, remember your preferences, or gather analytics information. Some cookies are "strictly necessary" — the site cannot function without them. Others are optional, and for those we need your consent under the UK Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) before we set them.
Strictly necessary cookies
These cookies are required for the site to function and cannot be switched off. They include:
Session state — short-lived cookies used by the web server to maintain request coherence. These expire when you close your browser.
Consent record — a localStorage key ("tml-cookie-consent") that remembers whether you have accepted or rejected optional cookies. This is required to honour your preference.
We do not need your consent to set strictly necessary cookies because they are essential to the service you have requested.
Analytics — Plausible (cookieless)
We use Plausible Analytics to understand how visitors use the site. Plausible is cookieless by design: it does not set any cookies, does not collect personal data, does not track you across sessions or sites, and does not build a profile of you.
Plausible collects only aggregated statistics: page views, referrers, and approximate country (derived from a hashed, salted IP address that Plausible discards immediately and never stores). Because Plausible sets no cookies and processes no personal data, it does not require consent under UK PECR or GDPR.
If you choose "Reject" on the consent banner, nothing changes technically — there are no analytics cookies to disable. You are simply registering your preference, which we respect.
How to opt out
Because we currently set no third-party or advertising cookies, there is little to opt out of. If you have rejected optional cookies using the banner, your choice is stored in your browser's localStorage and honoured on every visit.
You can also control cookies at the browser level. All major browsers let you block, delete, or configure cookies in Settings > Privacy. Note that blocking strictly necessary cookies may prevent some parts of the site from working.
For further opt-out options for Plausible analytics, visit plausible.io/privacy.
How to change your mind
If you accepted cookies and later change your mind, you can clear your preference by opening your browser's developer tools, going to Application > Local Storage > themarginlabs.com, and deleting the "tml-cookie-consent" key. The consent banner will reappear on your next visit.
Alternatively, clearing your browser's local storage or cookies for this site will reset your preference.
Future cookies
If we add services that set non-essential cookies in the future (for example, a live chat widget or marketing automation tool), we will update this notice and request your consent through the banner before those cookies are set.
Updates to this notice
We may update this cookie notice from time to time to reflect changes in technology or regulation. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised. Significant changes will be highlighted on the banner.
